“Forever,” a sweet teen series

Netflix's new series, released May 8, 2025, transposes the plot of a classic American teen novel to Los Angeles, and stars two African-American characters. Their endearing and luminous duo has won over Californian critics.
It's love at first sight, delayed. Justin (Michael Cooper Jr.) and Keisha (Lovie Simone) were in elementary school together, lost touch, and reunite at a New Year's party in 2018—their last year of high school. And it doesn't take long for the chemistry to kick in. Forever , released on Netflix on May 8, 2025, is “a series full of tenderness and characters whose needs and desires sometimes put them at odds, but who are, for the most part, deeply kind,” praises the Los Angeles Times .
The two protagonists aren't exactly from the same social class. Justin lives in a beautiful house, his mother, Dawn (Karen Pittman), is a high-ranking executive, and his father, Eric (Wood Harris), is a chef. He receives personalized support for his attention deficit disorder. Keisha has excellent academic and athletic achievements—in running. Her mother, Shelly (Xosha Roquemore), “is struggling to pay the fees at the Catholic school Keisha has just enrolled in,” continues Robert Lloyd, the critic for the California daily. Justin and Keisha have their ups and downs, of course, but the passion between them is undeniable.
